Widowhood remains the most neglected of all human rights and gender
issues, and rural widows are among the poorest of the poor.
Many widows are "chased-off" from their villages, are denied land to grow food,
are at risk of exploitation and abuse, or forced to seek high-risk survival
strategies in urban areas.
They and their children face homelessness, starvation and abuse.
