  • Central Development Regional Workshop and Chhahari Inauguration at Kavre

    Women for Human Rights, single women group (WHR) with the support from United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) organized two days Central Development Regional Workshop in Shyampati, Kavre on 29th and 30th January, 2012. Single women members from 16 districts (Makwanpur, Parsa, Dhading, Kavre, Bara, Ramechapp, Mohatari, Rasuwa, Sinduli, Chitwan, Sindupalchowk, Lalitpur, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Dhanusa, and Sarlahi) participated in the workshop. The workshop continued for two days. Altogether there were 40 participants including representatives from WHR central office.

  • Chhahari Receives Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award

    Chhahari Production Pvt. Ltd. received Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award from among 66 applicants. Surya Nepal Private Limited awarded the award amid a function organized in the capital on Monday, 21st November, 2011.

  • Chhahari Constructed by Eastern Region's Single Women Group

    Single women of Sunsari have constructed "Chhahari", in order to provide a safe space for the single women affected by conflict and violence. The building has been constructed in the land provided by the municipality at Dharan-17 Saraswoti Marg. It was formally inaugurated by Chudamadi Sharma, Chief District Officer of Sunsari and Lily Thapa, Founder President of WHR amid a function organized at Dharan on Tuesday, November 13.

  • Annual General Meeting of Hamro Aadhar

    Hamro Aadhar Saving and Credit Cooperative Limited conducted its second Annual General Meeting on 11th November, 2011 at WHR central office, Baluwatar, Kathmandu. There was participation of total 145 participants during the meeting.

  • Awareness on Widows' Allowance through Poster and PSA

    In September, 2011, with the support of United Nations Democracy Fund, WHR published posters in order to raise awareness on the procedure in getting widows' allowance.

  • WHR Receives ECOSOC Status

    September 13, 2011
    Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at its Substantive Session of July 2011 adopted the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to grant Special consultative status to “Women for Human Rights, single women group”.

  • Interaction Program on Single Women Issues in Media

    With the support of European Union and in coordination with Sancharika Samuha Nepal, Women for Human Rights, single women group organized an Interaction Program on Single Women Issues in Media. The program was organized at Chhahari Services, Gairhidhara on 8th August, 2011.

  • Single women's issues addressed in National Policies and Programmes

    Nepalese Government allocated budget for the social security allowance to all the single women regardless of age in the 2068/069 National Policy and Programme.Similarly, in the National Policy and Programme, arrangement has been made to provide concessional loan without collateral to the cooperatives operated by single women, provisions have been made for the tax deduction for the single women, receiving skill development trainings for 21,000 single women and involving single women in every empowerment activities through the local government.

  • Sensitization Program for Entrepreneurs

    With the support of European Union, WHR organized a sensitization program for entrepreneurs with the participation of 18 women entrepreneurs from various entrepreneurs group on 26th June, 2011 at the Chhahari Training Hall, Kathmandu. The program highlighted the plights of single women, work of WHR for the single women and about the Single Women Entrepreneurs' Group established by WHR specifically for making the single women economically independent.

  • Joint Annual Review

    The joint annual review was undertaken in May 2011 with the objective to review WHR's achievements in terms of its 2010/2011 Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWAB) target, cost-effectiveness, gender and social inclusion; to review its strengths, weaknesses and challenges; review its priorities and unintended effects; its institutional development; and to review WHR's Strategic and Operational Plan (StOP) that has come midway and the strengths and weaknesses of the strategic partnership framework.

  • Sensitization Program for Religious Leaders

    A sensitization program was organized for religious leaders on stigma and discrimination against single women, to raise their awareness of the problems associated with single women and to have constructive ideas on how to move ahead together to fight against the discriminatory practices against single women in the community.

  • Monitoring and Documentation Workshop

    With the support of GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit), WHR conducted a five-day Monitoring and Documentation Workshop at the Bhaktapur Guesthouse. The workshop was held from 12th to 16th May, 2011 in which altogether 23 participants including Regional Chairpersons and Regional Officers, board and staff members of the central office participated.

  • Asian Paints- Supporting the Cause of Education

    Asian Paints (Nepal) Pvt. Limited, a leading paint company in Nepal along with its employees has spread the colour of happiness among children of the single women by providing them educational support. This social initiative of Asian Paints and the effort of its employees were towards enlightening the future of the children through their 'Access to Education', being one of their fundamental rights and the basis for leading an independent life.

  • Machines for Economic Empowerment

    On 26 April 2011, three single women and four single women groups of WHR were provided with sewing machine and candle making machine respectively with the support of Birgitte from Denmark.

  • Skill Development Training for Single Women

    In March, WHR with the support of WOMANKIND Worldwide, an UK based organization, conducted skill development training for the single women.

  • WHR Launched a New Project

    April 26, 2011
    A new project funded by the UN Democracy Fund on "Advocating for the Rights of Widows in Nepal" has been launched by WHR. The project has been commenced from 1 April, 2011 and will continue till 31 March 2013.
