Rahaat ? Conflict Affected Women's Cell in WHR

Issues

Nepal's more than a decade-long conflict resulted number of single women (widow) and displaced women throughout the nation including very young ones with many dependants (children and in-laws) . In the context of Nepal's patriarchal society, life without husband with dependants is extremely hard. Furthermore, single women are despised and face huge discrimination based on Hindu practice so they tend to be isolated by the society as well. Women in general have never been engaged in paid and public work so they are vulnerable for exploitation in work places. Many of them neither have proper connection in new community nor access to claim their rights due to their poor educational background and poverty.

What is "Rahaat"

"Rahaat" means "relief" or "ease" in Nepali. WHR has set up the department since June 2008, which exclusively works for conflict affected women to ease their pains and support their struggles to survive by providing different kinds of services. Therefore, the department is named "Rahaat".
