for HUMAN RIGHTS SINGLE
WOMEN GROUP
Background of SWEG
Single Women Entrepreneur Group (SWEG) is an enterprising section of WHR which was established in August 2003. Here single women (widows) are given the unique opportunity of skill oriented training in order to improve their economic status in society.
We firmly believe that "Economic strength is power and economic independence is liberation" especially in the case of underestimated single women (widows) of Nepal. Our main objective is to give single women (widows) a chance to succeed in their lives where society does not even permit them their basic human rights.
SWEG believes that the cycle of give and take is what keeps a wheel turning. This is why 95% of the profits from sales go directly to the welfare of the single women (widows) and 5% to WHR. We in turn use this 5% for skill oriented training to give continuance to the inclusion of more single women into SWEG.
WHR aims that a SWEG should be present at all the districts where there are single women (widows) groups, so that skill training and income generation can take place and a platform is created for the groups to sustain their livelihood.
Currently there is SWEG in 10 district single women groups. SWEG in Kathmandu promotes products made in other districts thus providing a small market for the groups. Certain single women groups make unique products for sale.
